As part of the K–12 Literacy Supports Initiative, Group 1 and 2 independent schools received ministry funding in April 2025 to support professional learning. If the funds are not utilized for professional learning before the end of the school year (June 2025), these funds can be carried over to future years. Independent schools have been encouraged to refer to the Independent School Literacy Professional Learning Funding Guide to determine how to best allocate the funding.

As communicated in the April 4, 2025, Deputy Minister’s Bulletin for Independent Schools, the ministry is requesting high-level optional reporting on spending. Reporting will also be requested again in June 2026.

Please send completed reports to EDUC.IndependentSchoolsOffice@gov.bc.ca by Friday, August 29, 2025. The information provided to the ministry will help to evaluate the program and gain valuable insights regarding screening tools.
