CMS Lite Training – Basic – CLASS FULL

The objective of this course is to introduce content editors to the basic functionality of the CMS Lite application used to create webpages on  the B.C. government website.  Participants will also be introduced to plain language concepts, world-wide accessibility standards, web style guides and the appropriate use of graphics.

The majority of the course will be hands-on, instructor-led participation.  Participants will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge to self-guided exercises throughout the day.

By the end of this course, participants will have a solid understanding of the following:

  • Understanding the B.C. government website structure, and how to update content
  • Using the CMS Lite menus and Help functionality
  • Creating, cloning and editing pages
  • Formatting content to meet accessibility standards
  • Applying metadata to pages
  • Adding right-hand column boxes
  • Creating asset folders and uploading assets
  • Publishing content and assets

Rich Text Editor functionality will include:

  • Linking to pages, assets and external content
  • Formatting headings
  • Inserting an image
  • Bulleted lists
  • Table formatting
  • Find and replace
  • Special characters

To register for an upcoming course, please submit a request for training to the COS Service Desk, along with the following account coding for billing purposes. You can raise a Service Request in two ways:

  1. If you have access to our iTop Service Request system (https://cos.citz.gov.bc.ca/ServiceDesk), open a new request.
  2. If you are uncertain if you have access to iTop, send an email to the GCPE COS Service Desk . The Service Desk staff will be logged the email information into iTop for tracking purposes.

If CMS Licenses are also required, please submit these on a separate request. A $5/month charge is applied to each license, and may have different coding than above. If so, please provide the coding for the license. If you have current licensed users that are no longer using the CMS Lite, you may request a license be transferred by providing the dormant name and the new user. Typically licenses are not activated until a new user has taken training, so please indicate if it is required before training has been completed. Users do not need to be active in the system prior to training as generic IDIR accounts are used for the purpose training.
